Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take?
A 300-hour training is, in fact, a 300-hour-long program, but of course, everybody is different! Some participants might have an educational background where anatomy is already familiar, so these topics are easily covered. Others might have experience in counseling, and so on.
In sum: it’s hard to say exactly how long it will take, but plan for 300 hours in your schedule! During the introduction to the training, we’ll give you advice on how to plan your time effectively.
We ask that you complete the program within a year of starting. If that is not possible, you can apply for an extension.
How much is self-paced?
We aim to start a new group class in January and August. Within that year, everything on Thinkific is self-paced, BUT there are approximately 40 hours of Zoom calls that you’ll need to attend. These sessions are spread throughout the year Tuesdays and some Saturdays. You cannot pass unless you’ve attended the number of classes required by us and Yoga Alliance.
Meetings with your trainer will be scheduled to fit both of your schedules, no matter the time difference.
Is there anything else I need to buy, or is everything included in the price?
Everything you need to read is included in the modules. If you don’t have a Bible, we encourage you to buy one, though the text can also be found online. Having a mat, some yoga blocks, and a strap is expected (we hope 😊). You will also need to purchase two tennis balls or fascia balls.
For the Power Yoga part, weights are helpful, but anything you can lift (e.g., water bottles) will work too.
Am I qualified to do this training even though I’m….
You need a 200-hour yoga certification to join, but other than that, you are welcome! Your 200-hour training does not need to be Yoga Alliance-approved. If it isn’t, you’ll receive a 300-hour certification with CrossYoga, but it won’t include Yoga Alliance registration.
You don’t need to be fit and slim. You don’t need years of yoga experience, and you don’t need to be a strong believer. You might call yourself spiritual rather than Christian! We’ll discuss topics such as health and faith, maintaining a non-judgmental attitude while sharing our personal viewpoints along the way.
What does it mean that I can apply and get a price reduction? (Payment Option 1)
At CrossYoga, we dream of more people discovering the healing grace and love of Jesus Christ. This means we want to make the training accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of country or income level.
There is a huge difference in income levels across Europe, the USA, Africa, Australia, and Asia, and we want to offer prices that reflect this. For example:
Some households might have a yearly income of $200,000/€200,000, while others might have a yearly income of $50,000/€50,000. Of course, they cannot pay the same amount for training.
When you apply, you’ll be asked to provide your country of residence, approximate yearly household income (in US dollars or euros), and current job situation. The application is straightforward, so it won’t take much time.
There is no shame in this! In God’s kingdom, we are one big family, supporting each other with what we have!
Tell me more about the live-sessions / Zoom calls?
Zoom calls will be 1.5 hours long on Tuesdays. European CET: 4:30 PM–6:00 PM / USA EST: 10:30 AM / Asia ICT: 10:30 PM. We will also meet on a few Saturdays throughout the year for a 4 hour long session.
These meetings will include a mix of teaching and classes from trainers, as well as discussions and presentations from students. Each session will have a specific focus and some will require you to do advance preparation.
You are not required to attend all the classes, but you will need to participate in a certain number of live sessions to complete your training. For some assignments, you’ll also receive personal feedback on a Zoom call from one of our trainers.
How does this online training work?
The training is divided into three modules: Module 3, Module 4, and Module 5. Each module focuses on specific topics, carefully organized to provide the best learning experience.
Module 3
This module covers primarily four main topics.
Advanced Class Design, Theming, and Sequencing
After introductions and a review, you’ll dive into designing advanced classes, incorporating themes, and sequencing effectively.Yoga Philosophy
You’ll explore yoga history and philosophy, studying ancient yoga literature. For instance, some phrases in Hatha yoga can be challenging to interpret. We’ll discuss these through the lens of Christian faith, comparing them to the Bible as an ancient text.Meditation
You’ll experience meditation and learn how to design “visual meditations,” a powerful tool for Christian spiritual growth and healing.Anatomy and Teaching Power Yoga
These are the most extensive topics in Module 3. You’ll deepen your understanding of anatomy and learn how to teach Power Yoga. CrossYoga defines advanced postures differently from many other schools. Here, an advanced posture is any pose adapted to require more strength. You’ll learn to add layers of power and muscle activation, helping students build strength and body awareness. Additionally, you’ll explore how to address common injuries and challenges within your scope of practice.
Module 4
The four main topics in this module are:
Cueing and Teaching Style
You’ll refine your use of language and define your teaching style. You’ll also learn tactile cueing techniques, including“Self-assists” and “hands-on assists.” You’ll practice 20 of the most common assists with a friend. 😊
Yoga for Specific Populations
Classwork includes yoga for the physically frail, chair yoga, yoga for obesity, and those suffering from addiction, among other topics.Nurturing Spiritual Maturity
This is the core of Module 4. Explore your personal faith and discover how to help students grow and heal as loved human beings created in God’s image. Learn how to integrate Biblical wisdom with the practice of yoga. Study includes introspection, meditation, and reflection.
Module 5
Module 5 will cover topics both deep and wide:
Yoga - Cultivating Emotional Resilience
Mental illness and stress are common, and some of your students may bring these challenges into your class. While you won’t act as a therapist, you’ll learn how to hold space lovingly and offer appropriate yoga practices. You'll be equipped to guide a trauma informed yoga class.Complementary Topics
You’ll be introduced to essential oils and the lymphatic system.Myofascial release (MFR). Using tools like blocks and balls, you’ll explore MFR techniques that can enhance your students' well-being. You’ll also review anatomy while learning about this topic.
Building Your Yoga Business
This section covers creating retreats and workshops. You’ll learn to unlock social media’s potential for effective marketing. You will also have the option to develop a business plan with input from a mentor.
Assignment
Before receiving your 300-hour Yoga Alliance-approved CrossYoga certification, you’ll complete a “Final Project.” This project includes research, a short written assignment (1–2 pages), and teaching a class on Zoom. You’ll choose a topic from one of the three main areas:
A) Anatomy and Power Yoga
B) Nurturing Spiritual Maturity
C) Yoga - Cultivating Emotional Resilience
Alternatively, you may choose to develop and begin implementing a marketing or business plan.
