CrossYoga Theology - Our 7 Standpoints

Every single human being is created by God in love and for love. God wants to be in a relationship with us.

We believe that man has been created and loved by God from conception. God is aware of his creation, of our relationship with ourselves, others and God. The love of God is unconditional and is freely given to every single person who will receive it. We cannot make ourselves deserving of this love, it is not an abstract love, not theoretical and indistinct, but it is a present and personal love, like that of a father or mother. His love for us is not dependent on whether or not we feel it. The love of God means that we can pray to God for healing and restoration of body, soul, spirit and mind. This love also means that God is with us whenever we encounter sorrow or darkness in our lives. God has not promised us a life without sorrow – but he has promised us to never leave us.

We are called to love others and do unto them as we would have done unto us. This demands a foundational respect for all human beings.

We are created in the image of God. This has many aspects and includes that we have been given the ability to love, and God has called us to do so. Everyone Is welcome to participate in CrossYoga regardless of faith, ethnicity, sex and sexual orientation.

In CrossYoga, we cherish the respect for individual beliefs, experiences and emotions. We welcome anyone no matter whether we share the same beliefs or not. We do not seek to manipulate or enforce our beliefs upon others, but we will share what we believe honestly and openly.

As stated above, in CrossYoga, we cherish the respect for individual beliefs, experiences and emotions. We welcome anyone no matter whether we share the same beliefs or not. We do not seek to manipulate or enforce our beliefs upon others, but we will share what we believe honestly and openly.

We believe that all human beings contain a holistic creation with body, soul, mind and spirit.

We believe that this includes our physical body, mental processes, intellect, character, emotions and the breath of God, which has been breathed into every single person.

These elements are weaved together, cannot be pulled apart and all influence each other. We believe that God is near, and that He meets us as whole human beings, meaning that we can approach God from all of these different perspectives.

The body – as well as the spirit, the mind and the soul – is a gift from God, with its limitations and possibilities. We believe the body to be more than just a container for us to reside in. It is the temple of God and His spirit lives in us (1 Corinthians 3:16). We have the responsibility to take care of our body, soul, mind and spirit – and in CrossYoga we value this holistic view. The word “yoga” translates into “to unite.”

We believe in the almighty creator as expressed in the trinity of God, the Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost.

We believe that God is almighty, all knowing and omnipresent, regardless of our circumstances and living conditions!

God is the creator of the universe. No one can be compared to God. We believe that God is a trinity and we accept that we cannot grasp this with our intellect. We can talk about the attributes of God, for example, by naming God our creator, master, father, friend, savior, guide, intuition, and so on. We can describe the voice of God in our thoughts, our heart, our conscience, energy, etc., when we pray and live our (spiritual) lives. This however will always be fractional experiences.

In CrossYoga, we want to convey the Gospel – and not just put emphasis on one aspect of God’s character.

In Crossyoga, we use words like “energy” or “prana” to describe God to someone who might not have a background in the Christian belief and theology – we will however always use words like this with a solid anchoring in the God of the Bible.

Jesus Christ is the way to salvation.

We believe that we as human beings are not capable of saving and cleansing ourselves from guilt, shame and pride by our own strength.

Even though we as people want to do good and be good, we do not always succeed living up to our ideals and desired behavior. We can be egoistic and self centered. This is talked about in the Bible as sin.

The more “classical” philosophies of yoga have to do with the cleansing of the body from lust, ego, suffering and death or ignorance through movement, meditation, mantras etc. In CrossYoga, we believe that cleansing/salvation is given only through the belief in Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us.

We believe that Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection defeated death, and that salvation (in yoga philosophy called samadhi/enlightenment/harmony) is given through the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus, not through our own doing. By believing in Jesus Christ we are filled with the Holy Spirit, become his child and receive eternal life. Salvation is not dependent on us, or on how big or small our faith is, and that there is room for doubt in our faith. Life here on earth will always contain suffering, disharmony, death and egoism, but we believe that in life after death there is eternal enlightenment, peace and tranquility.

Karma – is something we understand by how actions produce consequences. Good deeds typically cause more good and we are called to do good, always. The mercy of God is greater than karma. Mercy deletes all bad karma – or put in another way – God forgives all sin.

We believe that we are called to grow as people through Jesus Christ.

This growth is described by the apostle Paul as the fruits of the spirit. (Galatians 6:22) where Paul talks about love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, mildness, and self-control.

Fruit grows over time, with nurturing attention. We believe that spiritual growth like physical and spiritual healing can be given by God through prayer, movement and immersion – amongst other ways through CrossYoga. We hope that more people will experience peace, love and acceptance through our work. We are aware that we are dependent on God to intervene. We believe in the paradox that our responsibility is to seek God through prayer, Bible study, and community, and are dependent on this intervention to be transformed and develop.
